When it comes to the design of your website many times people focus too much on actual physical appearance of the website, they are hard set in their opinions that certain images should go in certain places, that the text needs to be a specific font of a specific size and they offer a lot of resistance when you bring up the usability… at first.

Once you explain that when it comes to web design you need to be able to provide your visitor with the best user experience possible and this is accomplished by ensure that the site is designed in a manner that makes it simple for the visitor to find what they want in the quickest and most efficient way possible.

Once they realize this they are more than willing to listen to suggestions about how to effectively increase the usability of their website. They are willing to perhaps resize or do-away with trouble images and are happy to reword verbiage and to create an easy to navigate structure.

Often times when someone comes to who is thinking about creating a website I have them draw a couple sketches of how they envision it and since I’m not a web designer I refer them to a qualified company or individual. I also encourage them to take a close look at their web design portfolio, that way they’ll get a better understanding about what their website could potentially look like.
